Today’s giveaway comes from my talented friend Alex McMaster. Alex is originally from the UK, but has lived with her family in the Cayman Islands for almost 10 years. She offers unique original artwork based on your baby’s ultrasound scans. The idea originally came from her mother, who is also an artist, and who asked to paint a picture of Alex’s ultrasound when Alex was pregnant with her daughter Zoe. “I sent it to her,” Alex says, “and she did the most beautiful picture.” She also painted Alex’s son Jake’s ultrasound.
Art had always been a hobby of Alex’s, but she found it hard to fit in after she began her career as a project manager. Inspired by her mother’s artwork, Alex decided to start painting baby scans herself, and she soon started a business based around these works.
Each painting takes Alex anywhere from two to four hours to complete, depending on the ultrasound from which she’s working. She paints in acrylic on 12×12 stretched canvas. You can find her at babyscanpaintings.com.
The winner of this giveaway will receive one baby scan painting from Alex, based on an ultrasound picture of your choice. To enter, leave a comment below telling me about the time you first saw your baby on the ultrasound. A winner will be chosen at random on Friday, Dec 7. This would make a great holiday gift for a mom or dad.
Update: I’m extending the deadline for this giveaway until Monday, December 17! Keep commenting and you could win!
Giveaway is now closed. Thanks! Ann Frederick, you are the winner! I’ll be contacting you shortly.

What a fantastic way to commemorate a growing little one. Fun! I haven’t seen mine on US yet, but we will soon.
I will never forget the first time I saw the tiny little thing on the screen, just a little thing pulsing. Watching it grow from a little speck into a real baby was amazing. At 10 weeks pregnant, I went in for a routine exam and the doctor decided to “take a look” and that’s when he saw the baby (Quinn) penis. He said “well, Daddy would be proud, I think it’s going to be a big penis.” My doctor is HYSTERICAL. He says this in a very thick Israeli accent. I had many ultrasounds with this pregnancy and Quinn was usually sucking his thumb, just like he does now when we snuggle on the couch, four years later. My other baby was also seen sucking his thumb many times via ultrasound and I wish he would do it now! the only thing he wants to suck is my tit!
Oh wow. Those are incredible. I have a u/s of just paloma’s feet, crossed at the ankles. I’d love to see how alex rendered that. That is amazing stuff!
